Colin Washbourne's foot can
just be seen poking underneath the white sheet he held-up behind the
bike for the BSA works photographer.

The 1954 twins |
|
 |
Distinguishing features of the '54 bikes are the
open megaphones, fabricated rear brake lever and pivot,
alloy damper know, butterfly filler cap and no stays on the front mudguard.
Some of the fabricated and lightened items such as the top
yoke were direct copies of items Roland Pike made for his own
earlier BSA special Gold Star
|
 |
Although the rear guards at Daytona had alloy extensions as
shown in the 55 pics below, these were fitted to the bikes
raced in 54.
Why they aren't shown on Colin's pics, we don't know!

The 1955 twins |
|
 |
Distinguishing features of the '55 bikes are the reverse cone megaphone,
monza filler cap, stays on front mudguard and standard rear
brake lever and linkage.
Compared with the 54 bikes the 55 bikes seem to have used more
standard production items for small details parts. |
|
 |
For example the rear brake and linkage appear to be standard
Gold Star and the front engine plates standard with contoured
edges - the 54 plates are straight cut
Since many of these items on the 54 bikes were the result of
Roland Pike's original prototype thinking it may be that these
were replaced with standard items once Pike had left BSA in
1955.

Myles, I understand from Don that the web site is getting a lot of
hits, if possible could you highlight a couple of items for us.
We have now committed to the banquet for a least 50 people, we have
about 25, can you put the application back on the site and mention
that the banquet will be on Thursday night at 7 PM. There will be a
great meal. The entree will be filet and chicken Marcela with pasta
for non meat eaters. That is each entree will be filet and chicken
not filet or chicken. All of the race bikes will be there and it
will be at the site of the Jerry Woods auction among all the auction
bikes. Order tickets from me or from the application. I quarantine
that not only will the food be great but the venue will be fantastic
and the speakers will be entertaining.
Also I am getting many inquiries about the parade lap on Tuesday Jan
2. The application for that is on the AHRMA website.
www.ahrma.org.
Go to the Daytona events page to find the application. They need to
fill the application directly with AHRMA.
If you could highlight those two items it would be helpful to me.
